The Heinrich Heine memorial fountain at Joyce Kilmer Park. Heinrich Heine was one of the great German poets, alongside Goethe and Rilke. You might wonder why his memorial is in the Bronx. Anyway the statue depicts the subject of his poem “Die Lorelei”, which was set to music by Clara Schumann, about some sirens who inhabit a rocky crag overlooking the Rhein River, who make passing sailors crazy... Ich weiß nicht was soll es bedeuten, daß ich so traurig bin...
