Diving pool at
Colonial Play Center, with the
bandshell and dance terrace beyond the wall, and the steep slope up to
Edgecombe Avenue on the left. During the New Deal there were free swimming
lessons here, and at all the New Deal pools, and as a result the number
drownings per year went way down. Besides lessons, there were also annual
swimming and diving competitions.
