I recently had a visit from Alfred Floegel, who lives in Florida and is over 80 years of age. His father was Alfred Floegel Sr., the artist who painted the murals outside of the library between 1934 and 1940. Alfred remembers his father talking about this beautiful mural he painted for a high school in the Bronx. Alfred came to NYC from Florida just to get a chance to see the painting his father was so proud of. As he walked the halls and ascended to the third floor, I could see Alfred's joy as he anticipated seeing the murals. As I walked Alfred to the 4 train I could almost see him walking a little taller as the pride of seeing his father's work in person elevated him to new heights.
