Washington's Walk goes along Reservoir Avenue from Strong Street to
West 231st Street, , connecting the
Strong
Street Playground with
Old Fort Four Park
(
see map). It's called Washington's Walk
because General George Washington had a fort here during the Revolutionary
War, and because there is now landscaped parkland with a path (broken by
several cross streets) from end to end.
Was Washington's Walk created by the New Deal? Let's defer that
question until we reach Old Fort Four Park.
