New York City New Deal...

Prospect Park Zoo

Although there was some form of menagerie in Brooklyn's Prospect Park since 1890, the Prospect Park Zoo that we know today was a New Deal creation, built in 1934-35 by CWA and WPA funding and labor. The zoo grounds and building exteriors were designed by Aymar Embury II[1]. This gallery is focussed on the New Deal creation of the park and contains only archive material[2].
