Randall's Island as seen from an aircraft

center-left: Hell Gate Bridge and, behind it, the main suspension span of
the Triborough Bridge. Far right, just below center: the lift-bridge
segment of the Triborough Bridge connecting Randall's Island with Manhattan,
and bottom right the Bronx segment. Upper right is Manhattan Island with
Central Park in the middle and,
beyond it, the Hudson River and New Jersey. Upper left, Queens and Brooklyn.
On Randall's Island you can see the Manhattan Pyschiatric Center
(light colored buildings just left of the center of the image); and above
it Ward's Island Bridge to East 103rd Street in Manhattan, and below it
Icahn Stadium occupying the site or the original
Randall's Island Municipal Stadium. Left
center is the Ward's Island Wastewater Treatment Plant. The rest is
mostly Randall's Island Park, with its playgrounds and many baseball and
soccer fields. And here and there, various other institutions including
the NYC Fire Academy.
