World War I monument in
Owen F. Dolen Park, Bronx
NY, June 2015. It was moved to this location by the WPA 1940 or 1941, just
before the USA entered the next World War. Inscription:
To perpetuate in
grateful remembrance the sacrifice, heriosm, and devotion of the men and
women of the old town of Westchester who in the World War answered the call
of their country that justice and righteousness should not perish. The
old town of Westchester is the current Westchester Square neighborhood of
the Bronx. The other sides of the monument are engraved with names of local
residents who died in the war.
