Crotona Park, June 2014: Construction site of a
new
$22,000,000 tennis complex, the 12,600-square-foot
Cary Leeds Center for Tennis and
Learning. How's that for creating jobs and pumping some money into the
real economy? The project includes $13 million in public funds to renovate
20 existing courts, install two five-court bubbles for winter use and build
two stadium courts with bleachers for 400 spectators. This project
would never have happened if the WPA had not made Crotona Park the center of
tennis (not to mention swimming) in the Bronx back in 1934-41. Read more
about the new tennis center in
this
2012 NY Daily News article. The
Grand
Opening was held June 15, 2015. I would venture to say that even after
construction was finished, there are quite a few new jobs here.
